Actor Huma Qureshi’s cousin stabbed to death over parking dispute in Delhi; 2 held

Actor Huma Qureshi’s cousin was stabbed to death over a parking dispute outside his house in southeast Delhi’s Nizamuddin area, the police said on Friday, adding that two men have been arrested in the case.

The victim, identified as Asif Qureshi, 42, stayed in a ground-floor house on Church Lane in Bhogal, Jangpura, and was stabbed at around 10 pm on Thursday following an altercation with two individuals outside his home, the police said.

The police identified the accused as Ujjwal, 19, and Gautam, 18, and said that they were brothers who resided in the same lane.

Huma’s father, Saleem Qureshi, told the media that Asif was standing outside his house when he saw two men parking their two-wheeler in front of his main gate. “Following this, an altercation took place, after which the duo attacked my nephew, resulting in his death. I demand strict punishment for those responsible for the crime,” Saleem said. He added that Asif was in the business of supplying non-vegetarian food and was married to two women.

In a statement, Hemant Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), said that the accused and the victim had an altercation over parking a scooter. “During the altercation, one of the accused attacked the victim on his chest with a sharp, pointed object (a poker) that resulted in his death,” Tiwari said.

A case has been registered under sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Altercations—and even killings—over parking disputes on the streets of Delhi are not new. In March, one person was killed and several others were injured in a parking dispute between two families in northwest Delhi.
