Over three months after BJP corporator Parakramsinh Jadeja lodged a complaint against his party colleague Dilipsinh Gohil, and two others, alleging that they duped him of Rs 21 lakh in a bogus land deal, Gohil was arrested on Thursday after he landed at the Ahmedabad airport from Dubai.
Gohil, the former Chairman of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) School Board, had been evading arrest in the case of alleged cheating lodged against him in January 21 in the city.
The Vadodara city police had also issued a look-out notice against Gohil, who had been evading arrest in the case.
On Wednesday, after being brought to Vadodara by the Vadodara Crime Branch, Gohil was taken for his medical examination to complete the formalities of the arrest.
Earlier, the Vadodara City Police had arrested two other accused in the case — Jamaji Sodha and Kamlesh Detroja.
In his complaint, Jadeja stated that last year, Gohil and Detroja had offered to sell him a piece of land in Sukhalipura village, allegedly belonging to Detroja’s uncle.
The complaint states that Detroja had claimed that his uncle — Amrut Parecha — had given him the power of attorney to sell the land. Jadeja alleged that Gohil and Detroja told him that they had become “partners” in the said land and had decided to sell it for Rs 1.45 crore. Accordingly, Jadeja paid them Rs 21 lakh in advance, of which, Detroja took Rs 11 lakh and Gohil was paid Rs 10 lakh, the complaint stated.

Jadeja told the police that the accused allegedly told him that since Parecha was unwell, the registration of the sale deed could be done after he recovers from the illness. Meanwhile, Jadeja was made to sign documents of the sale deed, he alleged. Later, in Jadeja’s absence, the accused allegedly brought in a lookalike of Parecha — Sodha — to pose as the landowner for the registration of sale deed at the office of the sub-registrar in Vadodara.
Police said that on being given the land papers, the complainant suspected that something was amiss as the remaining amount that he had paid to Parecha had not been cleared to be paid to the owner. On probing, Jadeja learnt about the fraud and reported it to the police.
