Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar chaired a high-level meeting with his Cabinet colleagues, Bengaluru city legislators, and senior police officers on Saturday. He directed the police to take steps to avoid traffic congestion at the entry and exit points during the work on the 16.75 km-tunnel project in Bengaluru city.

The State Cabinet has cleared ₹17,780 crore for the tunnel project from Hebbal to Silk Board in Bengaluru. Mr. Shivakumar said the global tenders would be called soon for the first phase of the project.

New plans on garbage clearance

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has said that under the “clean Bengaluru” campaign, construction debris and other garbage would be cleared in Bengaluru on a mission mode, and citizens can join through an app that will be designed or a phone number that will be provided soon.

On integrated solid waste management, Mr. Shivakumar said tenders for 33 packages will be called soon, one for smaller constituencies in the city, two for bigger ones. “The ₹4000 crore proposal has already got Cabinet approval and tenders will be called for a period of seven years,” he said.

“No exit will be allowed anywhere within one km of Vidhana Soudha,” Mr. Shivakumar said while speaking to reporters regarding steps to avoid traffic congestion during the construction period.

The government has decided to construct a 114 km-elevated corridor in Bengaluru, and the opinion of the traffic police officers has been sought on management of the traffic, he said.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, senior officials of Greater Bengaluru Authority, the DG&IGP, and traffic police attended the meeting.

On Cauvery Aarti

Mr. Shivakumar also held a meeting on calling tenders for the construction of the Cauvery Aarati stage and said the Cauvery Aarti will be a symbol of the culture and heritage of Karnataka. A platform for the Aarti programme would be built on flowing water. Tenders would be called soon for the construction of the platform, he said.
