TWO GOVERNMENT doctors, one of whom was part of the medical examination panel for the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment 2023, have been arrested by the Etah police for allegedly extorting money from some of the candidates.
Police said the accused doctors allegedly intimidated some candidates by threatening to declare them medically unfit and demanded bribes to clear them during the physical medical evaluation.
Circle Officer of Etah, Amit Kumar Rai, confirmed that Dr Anubhav Agarwal (in his 40s) was a member of the medical examination panel, while Dr Rahul Varshney (in his 50s) assisted him in the crime. He added that Dr Rahul was not part of the examination panel.
According to the police, they recently received videos and photographs, along with a note, alleging that Dr Anubhav Agrawal was involved in “extortion” during the ongoing police recruitment medical examinations in the district.
The medical examination process, which began on April 22, concluded on May 10, with several candidates undergoing the evaluation.
Police claimed that the footage shows Dr Agrawal conducting general physical examinations of candidates at a private facility. Dr Rahul is also purportedly seen in the footage.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the videos were recorded at a diagnostic centre in Etah, which also houses a CT scan unit. When the viral footage was shown to an employee of the centre, he confirmed that the persons seen in the video were candidates scheduled for medical tests for the police recruitment in the coming days.

Rai said that Dr Anubhav Agrawal, with the help of unidentified associates, allegedly summoned candidates and intimidated them with the threat of being declared unfit during their medical examination.
Police said that preliminary investigations revealed that Dr Anubhav Agrawal and Dr Rahul Varshney, in collusion with others, systematically extorted money from candidates.
A case has been filed against the accused at Kotwali police station in Etah under relevant sections of the law.
Earlier, on Tuesday, a Mathura police government doctor, who was part of the medical examination committee for successful candidates in the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment, and three others including his wife, who is running a private hospital, were arrested on similar charges.
