Rishabh Pant was fined after being guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate against Mumbai Indians in Lucknow Super Giant’s clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 27 in Match 45 of IPL 2025. The LSG skipper was fined INR 24 lakh due to the recent offence, being it was the franchise’s second over-rate offence in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
The rest of the XI will be slapped with “either INR 6 lakhs or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” according to the tournament’s Code of Conduct regulations. Apart from Pant, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Rajat Patidar, Riyan Parag, and Hardik Pandya are the other captains to have been penalised for slow over-rate offences in IPL 2025.
LSG ended up losing the game by 54 runs. They were unsuccessful in tracking down the 216-run target set by MI. The Pant-led side ended up getting bowled out for 161 in their 20-over quota. The bowling attack did not click during the afternoon game. Not one bowler was economical from LSG. Mitchell Marsh (34 off 24) and Ayush Badoni (35 off 22) were the only batters who could register a 30-plus score.
The recent loss left LSG on 10 points after as many games. Their net run-rate (NRR) is -0.325 with four group-stage games left. The remainder of LSG’s fixtures are all evening matches, as they will take on Punjab Kings (May 4), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (May 9), Gujarat Titans (May 14), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (May 18), respectively.
As far as Pant’s form with the bat is concerned, this season has been one to forget up until now. In nine innings so far, the wicketkeeper-batter has been able to put together only 110 runs at a strike rate of 98.21. For his side to keep their playoff hopes alive, LSG will be anticipating much more from him as far as batting duties are concerned.
