The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Avadi City Police has arrested four persons for allegedly grabbing government poramboke lands by using forged documents and subsequently selling them.
The police registered a case following a complaint from D. Anita of Police Quarters, St. Thomas Mount, last January and investigated. They found that real estate brokers Prakash Babu, Abdul Razak, and their friends were introduced to her husband Devendran a few months ago. They were doing real estate business under the name of ‘Good Luck Real Estate’ and developed a 1.47-acre land at Ponneri in Tiruvallur district belonging to one Srinivasan. They claimed that Abdul Razak had power of attorney to alienate the land and sell it.
Believing their words, Anita and her relatives bought 9,000 sq.ft of land and registered the property at the sub-registrar office in Red Hills for a sale consideration of ₹54.48 lakh. When one of the buyers went to sell his portion of the land, he was told it was a poramboke land.
The police said the real estate brokers forged records claiming that the land belonged to private individuals and developed a layout. They sold the land using fake seals and forged documents. The police arrested four real estate brokers — Kamaraj alias Ruban, 59, and L. Seenivasan, 55, Mohammed Siddiq, 46, and Mohammed Ali Jinna, 49.
