Zilla Parishad members protesting before ZP Chairperson J. Subhadra and Anakapalli district Collector Vijaya Krishnan, during the ZP general body meeting in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
Members of the Zilla Parishad (ZP) opined that drug control officials should conduct inspection across the erstwhile Visakhapatnam district, in light of recent incidents of industrial accidents. The members also emphasised that it is more important to take preventive measures rather than responding after accidents occur.
The members were pointing out the industrial accidents in the Pharma City and also the firecracker manufacturing units in Anakapalli district. The discussions were held during the Zilla Parishad meeting held under the leadership of ZP Chairperson J. Subhadra.
During the meeting, the members reviewed the steps being taken to address water scarcity in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) and Anakapalli districts during this summer. The ZP Chairperson also instructed to ensure that the Agency areas do not face any drinking water shortages.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy said that steps should be taken to ensure that the families of those who die in accidents, whether pharma companies or other incidents, should be given a uniform ex-gratia/compensation from the government. In response to the MLA, Ms. Subhadra assured that measures would be taken to pass a resolution.
