
The Enforcement Bureau CID of the Tamil Nadu Police has seized 2 kg of cocaine, with an estimated value of around ₹6 crore.
The police said that the first accused in the case, Mahendran, worked as a Forest Guard in the Sayalkudi Range. According to a press release, a special team, acting on credible inputs, apprehended five suspects and seized 1 kg of Cocaine after a raid was carried out in St. Thomas Mount in Chennai. The accused were identified as natives of Keelakarai in Ramanathapuram district. The police seized a vehicle and five mobile phones from them.
Based on the preliminary investigation and confession of the accused, three more suspected offenders from Keelakarai were arrested in Koyambedu in Chennai. One kg of cocaine, a vehicle, and 3 mobile phones were seized from them.
The release said the accused alleged that they found the contraband on the sea shore while collecting plastic waste. Investigation revealed that they had planned to sell the cocaine in Chennai.
