3 women killed, 6 hurt in road mishap near Hindupur


Three women were killed on the spot, and six others injured, two of them critically, when a shared-auto in which they were traveling, was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle at Dhanapuram Cross in Parigi mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district on Sunday (April 13).

According to the Parigi police, an auto carrying some 14 persons was returning to Doddagutta village of Roddam mandal after the passengers had darshan at the temple of Goddess Chowdeswari at Kotipi nearby. The mishap occurred when the auto tried to enter the highway from a rural connecting road.

Three women killed on the spot were identified as 45-year-old Alimelamma, 65-year-old Adilakshmamma and 60-year-old Sakamma. Of the six injured, two were women. The injured were rushed to the Government Hospital at Hindupur. The bodies of three women were shifted to the area hospital at Parigi for autopsy. A case was registered and further investigation is on.

Superintendent of Police V. Ratna ordered verification of the CCTV footage along the Parigi-Hindupur highway to identify the vehicle that was responsible for the mishap.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock at the accident and directed the district officials to provide quality medicare to the injured, besides assuring that the government would stand by the families of the deceased.

Minister for Health Satyakumar Yadav, who represents Dharmavaram Assembly constituency in the district, spoke to Collector TS Chetan and enquired about the condition of the injured, and directed the officials to provide quality medical care to them.
