Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi MLA Amanatullah Khan has approached the Supreme Court against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

In his plea filed on Friday, Mr. Khan had termed the Bill, which has been passed by Parliament, “unconstitutional”.

“The Bill violates fundamental rights enshrined under Articles 14, 15, 21, 25, 26, 29, 30, and 300-A of the Constitution. It curtails the religious and cultural autonomy of Muslims, enables arbitrary executive interference, and undermines minority rights to manage their religious and charitable institutions,” reads the petition.

The AAP legislator has urged the court to issue a writ of mandamus restraining the Central government from enforcing or operationalising the provisions of the Waqf Bill.

Congress lawmaker Mohammad Jawed and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi have also moved the apex court, challenging the validity of the Bill on similar grounds.

“The RSS, VHP, and other such organisations will now try to close down mosques and graveyards, creating problems in every village of the country,” Mr. Khan told The Hindu.
