IIT Scholarships: Want to study at IIT-Madras? Know about these scholarships | Education News


The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras ) offers annual scholarships to commendable and deserving students. These scholarships are provided either as tuition fee waivers or as direct financial assistance credited to students’ bank accounts.

IIT Bombay Scholarships 

Ranked at 1 in the NIRF Engineering Rankings for the last few years, IIT Madras continues to lead in both academic excellence and inclusive education. Here are some of the scholarships offered by the Institute:

Institute Free Studentship

Students whose parents have an annual income of Rs 4.50 lakh or less are eligible for this financial aid. Mirroring the structure of the Merit-cum-Means scheme, the benefit is extended to 25 per cent of admitted students and provides a 67 per cent waiver on tuition fees. To maintain eligibility, students must achieve a minimum GPA of 5.0 each semester.

Institute Notional Prize

Students who qualify based on their JEE rank and whose parents have an annual income of Rs 4.50 lakh or less are eligible for this award. Offered to 7 per cent of admitted students, the benefit includes a one-time grant of Rs 1,000.

Institute SC/ST Scholarship

This financial support is exclusively available to students from the SC/ST categories whose parents have an annual income of Rs 4,50,000 or less. Eligible students are granted free messing, a monthly pocket allowance of Rs 250, and full exemption from tuition fees. To continue receiving these benefits, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 each semester.

Girish Ready Scholarship

These awards are granted to students who either hold the highest JEE rank or demonstrate exceptional all-round performance in school, provided their family income is below Rs 5 lakh. Each recipient is awarded Rs 25,000 annually. To retain the scholarship, students must maintain a GPA of 8.0 or above in the preceding semester.

Indian Women’s Association at Bonn Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to one BTech. student based on their JEE rank and a family income not exceeding Rs 5 lakh. The selected student receives a monthly stipend of Rs 1,250 for a duration of 12 months.

Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarship

Students whose parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs 4.5 lakh are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship programme offers several benefits to students based on various eligibility criteria, including a 67 per cent exemption from the tuition fees. To continue the scholarship, students have to maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 from the previous semester.
