The air quality index (AQI) in Mumbai was recorded at 176 on Monday morning (October 20), marking a spike from the 149 recorded Sunday.
The highest AQI was recorded in Colaba (266), closely followed by Bandra East at 232. Based on past trends, the air quality in Mumbai is expected to take a steep dip in the coming months as winter nears and wind patterns slow down.
With air quality worsening, it is advised to wear masks and stay indoors as much as possible to avoid exposure to toxic air. Health experts recommend avoiding outdoor activities such as walking, jogging, or exercising, as fine particulate pollutants can enter the lungs and bloodstream.
The AQI reading is categorised as Good (0-50), Satisfactory (51-100), Moderately Polluted (101-200), Poor (201-300), Very Poor (301-400), and Severe (401-500). The higher the AQI reading, the unhealthier it is to breathe.
The weather in Mumbai is around 28°C, and light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places across the Konkan-Goa coast, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.
Pune weather
The AQI in Pune was recorded at 168 today, falling under the ‘moderate’ category, same as Mumbai. The temperature recorded on Sunday morning is around 22°C.
