Beirut, Sept 1: Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Sunday that Abu Obaida, the spokesperson and top commander of Hamas’ armed wing, was killed in Gaza over the weekend.Obaida was last seen on Friday, giving a statement as Israel began a new military offensive in Gaza City. The city has been declared a combat zone. Hamas has not yet commented on his reported death.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier said Israel struck Obaida but was unsure if he had been killed.
