The difference between HEAT attacks and traditional threats – Blog | – Blog


If there’s one theme that many enterprise security teams have become accustomed to in the last two years it’s change. Change that’s driven by remote work, cloud migration, and the acceleration of software-as-a-service (SaaS) application adoption in order to keep the anywhere, anytime workforce of today productive. But those same changes ushered in a drastic increase in vulnerabilities, and an expanded attack surface that’s made way for Highly Evasive Adaptive Threats (HEAT).

HEAT attacks weaponize the single biggest productivity tool for knowledge workers today–the web browser–and employs various techniques to avoid detection-based technology that many organizations rely on today. But how do these evasive attacks differ from traditional threats that are on everyone’s radar today?

During a recent interview with Dark Reading Contributing Editor Terry Sweeney, Menlo Security Cybersecurity Strategist Neko Papez answers that question and further dives into what organizations do to protect against the single biggest unknown threat they face today.
