In a major political development, the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has officially announced its founder and Tamil actor Vijay as the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.
The decision was taken during the TVK Working Committee meeting, where it was unanimously resolved to project Vijay as the face of the party in the upcoming elections. The party has also made it clear that it would only align with parties that accept Vijay as the chief ministerial face.
TVK’s working committee resolution stated:
“Thalapathy Vijay, who is the founder and president of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, will be the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the 2026 assembly elections. All alliance decisions will be based on this leadership.”
This declaration comes months after Vijay announced his formal entry into politics and launched his party in February 2024, marking his transition from cinema to public life.
To strengthen his connect with people across Tamil Nadu, Vijay is expected to embark on a statewide tour starting this September. The tour is aimed at meeting party cadres, engaging with the public, and explaining TVK’s vision and policies directly to the people.
