23-Year-Old Critically Injured Days Before His Wedding


A 23-year old man was seriously injured in a case of hit-and-run in Vadodara on Monday night when an SUV rammed into the two-wheeler he was driving in the Kumbharwada area of old city, police said on Tuesday. The victim, Ahmed Sahim Khan Pathan, was taken to the SSG hospital by passerby, police said.

The incident took place around midnight, nearly 300 metres from the Fatepura crossroads. An FIR has been registered against the driver of the unidentified vehicle for rash and negligent driving.

Pathan, a resident of Bhandwala Mali Mohalla, was on his way home from his garment shop. Pathan’s brother, Mahim Khan, said Sahim’s marriage is slated for November 6.

Pathan was shifted to a private hospital in the early hours of Tuesday for further treatment. Police Inspector A J Pandav of Kumbharwada police station, “Our teams are working to identify the vehicle that was involved. We are scanning the CCTV footage of the area… So far, we have not been able to identify the number of the vehicle. The probe is on. The victim is critical but under treatment.”

Monday night’s is the fourth such accident in the past three days. On Saturday, a 19-year-old was killed on the Akota Dandia Bazar flyover after being hit by a truck. On Sunday, a two-wheeler rider was killed in an accident after being hit by a car. Earlier, a four-month-old was killed after being flung in the air when a speeding motorcycle crashed into the two-wheeler on which he was travelling with his parents to a hospital.
